PEER MEDIATION
Students
helping students is what Peer Mediation is all about. Students have disagreements with each other
that often involve name calling, verbal threats, or false accusations. While Peer Mediation allows the students to
solve minor conflicts without teacher or administrative involvement, serious
conflicts are still handled by the teacher, principal, or counselor. Mediators are trained to help those in
dispute to work out things for themselves and to arrive at their own
appropriate solution, thus avoiding tattling, violence, or adult intervention. Communication skills, decision-making skills,
and self-confidence are just a few of the benefits of this system.
