CHARACTER EDUCATION

The program I use to teach character education is Chick-fil-A’s Core Essentials.  This program focuses on a different value word each month, a list of which is shown below.  Our principal, Mrs. Stringer, shares things about the month’s value during morning assemblies, I teach a monthly guidance lesson in each classroom regarding it, and it is reinforced daily in all classrooms by the teachers. When teachers catch a student displaying the value word of the month in one way or another, they may award the student a “value-able” card that will entitle them to a free kid’s meal at Chick-fil-A.  For reinforcement at home, the kids are given a table-friendly discussion card each month to share that month’s value word with parents.  To learn more and find neat activities about our word of the month, go to www.coreessentials.org  on the web.  Our value words for 2006-2007 are:

September – Responsibility

       October – Individuality

November – Cooperation

              December – Compassion

                           January – Discipline

                                                February – Friendship

                                    March – Honesty

                                     April – Courtesy

                                                May – Learning
